Book Marketing - Let's Talk

Hi all!

I’ve read that a writer should start a web presence even before the first book is even published. Though not as active as I should be, I am on Facebook, Twitter, and this blog. I also visit other blogs.

The next step will be to think about marketing my book once it is published. You know, book launches, blog tours, getting reviews and the works.

Today, I invite you to share what worked for you. What didn’t, and why? What do you wish you would have done. What you will never do again. Online and on a local level.

This could be fun.

Let’s talk.

  1. One thing to keep in mind is that what works for one author, may not work for another. Actually, what works for one book, may not work for another book. It's kind of trial and error, unfortunately. But you're off to a good start. :)

  3. Definitely trial and error. I haven't found a solid marketing strategy as yet, so everything is learning and doing. I am looking forward to hering more about your journey.

    1. Thanks, Sherry. I love the learning and doing. I know I'm not totally alone in this, but want to learn from others.

  4. Locally: put flyers out at the libraries, they are usually pretty open to doing that for local authors. See if other businesses, usually the smaller ones, would be willing to do that for you, also. Send a media workup to your local newspapers and TV/radio shows...you could get an interview. Be sure to keep business cards on hand, I'm asked for them a lot, sometimes even in the market if people recognize me. ( I live in a small town, it's not as though I'm such a recognized author!) I'll think of some more, and let you know.

  5. Like Sherry, I haven't really found that effective marketing strategy yet. However, throwing on some comfy shoes, getting together a marketing packet and going door to door to businesses that might possibly allow you to do a book signing, has worked for me in setting up some signings. It's harder for them to say NO to your face than by email or phone. And ALWAYS keep a couple books in your trunk. You never know when someone is going to want a book!
